What Are Letterhead's Default Promotion Types?

Edit in CMS

Letterhead ships four default promotion types. Each of the first three below has a set of fields that promoters complete when designing and scheduling promotions. Two fields are required in each of those three: a promoter display name (so promotions are always clearly labeled as such) and a link address. The 4th type, HTML, works differently — see its section below. The character and dimension limits shown below are the legacy organization-level template editor’s defaults — see Customizing promotion types.

Text-only: the promoter’s name, a heading, a short text section, and a call to action with a hyperlink.

  • Promoter display name — up to 50 characters
  • Heading — up to 50 characters
  • Call to action — link text (up to 50 characters) plus the link address
  • Short text message — up to 140 characters

Everything in the Text type, plus a square image.

  • Promoter display name — up to 50 characters
  • Heading — up to 50 characters
  • Call to action — link text (up to 50 characters) plus the link address
  • Image — 300×300 pixels, 150kb max; jpeg, png, or gif; alt text required (up to 50 characters)
  • Short text message — up to 140 characters

A wide clickable image with the promoter’s name — the image itself links to the destination.

  • Promoter display name — up to 50 characters
  • Link — the image sends the reader to this address
  • Image — 728×90 pixels, 150kb max; jpeg, png, or gif; alt text required (up to 50 characters)

The 4th default type. Instead of filling in fixed fields, the promoter pastes custom HTML — including ad tags like Google Ad Manager — which Letterhead renders safely in the sent email. See How to use HTML Promotions for what’s supported and how it’s sanitized.

You can configure which default types you use, rename them, and set their inventory and placement per edition.

Other attributes — like text character limits — are edited on a promotion template, which only exists on the legacy organization-level promotions flow. Company-level promotions don’t have a template to customize these on today.

For everything the Promotions area can do, see Working in Promotions.
