How to Use the Letterhead WordPress Plugin

Overview

The Letterhead WordPress plugin connects your WordPress site directly to your Letterhead channels. Once connected, the plugin automatically syncs new and updated WordPress posts and tags into the Letterhead Curations library, making it easy to organize, manage, and publish website content in your newsletters.

Setting up the plugin is an admin task — you’ll need to be an organization administrator (or company admin) in Letterhead.

The plugin helps you:

• Automatically sync and curate WordPress content — posts, authors, and key metadata map directly into the Curations library, keeping newsletters up to date with minimal manual effort.
• Maintain consistent tagging across platforms — WordPress tags sync into Letterhead, with updates reflected automatically.
• Carry over custom fields — custom fields from your WordPress posts automatically fill matching custom fields in Letterhead when you curate content, and you can map any WordPress field to any Letterhead custom field from the plugin settings.

Step-by-step setup

Part 1: Install the plugin

1. Log in to your WordPress dashboard.
2. Go to Plugins → Add New and search for Letterhead.
3. Find the plugin by tryletterhead, click Install Now, then Activate.

Part 2: Generate your API key

1. In a new tab, log in to your Letterhead dashboard.
2. Go to Settings → API Keys.
3. Click + Generate new key, give it a name (e.g. “WordPress Connection”), and click Save. See Generate & manage API keys.

Part 3: Configure plugin settings

1. Back in WordPress, go to Settings → Letterhead.
2. Paste the key into the API Key field.
3. Enter a Prefix for your site — this identifies the content’s source in Letterhead.
4. Click Save. You should see a “Settings saved” confirmation.

Part 4: Map your channels

1. On the Letterhead settings page in WordPress, open the Channels tab.
2. Under Mapped Channel, choose the Letterhead channel your WordPress posts should feed into.
3. Click Save Mapping.

You can also map WordPress custom fields to Letterhead custom fields from the plugin settings.

Part 5: Create and use content

1. Publish a new post in WordPress.
2. In Letterhead, open your Curations library.
3. Your post appears in the list with its source marked as “Application”.
4. WordPress categories map automatically to Letterhead tags, and matching custom fields fill in automatically.

Troubleshooting

• My API key isn’t working. Go back to Settings → API Keys in Letterhead, generate a brand-new key, and paste the new secret into your WordPress settings.
• My posts aren’t showing up in Letterhead. Make sure you clicked Save Mapping in the plugin’s Channels tab — without a mapped channel, Letterhead doesn’t know where to route your content.
