Build a re-engagement series

Edit in CMS

A re-engagement series automatically messages subscribers who have gone quiet. Use it to win them back with special offers, new content, or a final ask before cleaning your list.

  1. Go to Automations and create a new series with a descriptive name (e.g., “Win back inactive readers”).
  2. Choose the Subscriber inactivity trigger. It targets readers who’ve become Ghosts — subscribers who opened none of your last 10 emails.

Add message steps for each email in the series, selecting or creating a template for each. A typical series is 2–3 messages over 1–2 weeks, with delays between steps. Effective re-engagement messages:

  • Acknowledge the lapsed engagement (“We miss you!”)
  • Offer value — a discount, new content, curated highlights
  • Include one clear call to action

You can go further than a straight sequence: branch by engagement to treat readers differently depending on whether they open the win-back emails, or add a tag step to mark subscribers who complete the series.

Review your steps and timing, send yourself a test email, then activate. Subscribers who match the criteria begin receiving messages automatically.

Once running, the workflow canvas shows live enrollment numbers, subscriber counts at each step, and per-email performance — see Monitor a running automation and Manage an automation series.

Automation emails include a journey-specific unsubscribe link, so a reader can leave the win-back series without unsubscribing from your newsletter entirely.
