AI Text Block

Use AI to generate contextual text content — summaries, intros, blurbs, and more — directly inside your newsletter.

Overview

The AI text block lets you generate newsletter copy using a custom prompt and the context of your existing newsletter content. It's designed for supporting sections — things like summaries, introductions, teasers, or section blurbs — that complement your main editorial content.

When you click Load, the AI reads your prompt and the current newsletter content to produce a short, contextual passage. You can regenerate as many times as you like until you're happy with the result.

⚠️ AI-generated content may vary in style, tone, and formatting. We recommend reviewing all generated output before sending.

Adding an AI text block

  1. Open your newsletter in the composer: AI text blocks are available in newsletters only, not in templates.

  2. Insert a new block: Click the block inserter and select AI Text Block from the list.

  3. Write your prompt: Enter instructions for what you'd like the AI to write. Up to 1,000 characters.

  4. Click Load: The AI will generate content based on your prompt and the rest of your newsletter.

Writing a prompt

The AI uses three inputs to generate content: your prompt, a system prompt, and the current newsletter content. The more specific your prompt, the more useful the output.

Good prompt examples
  • "Write a two-sentence intro summarizing this week's newsletter."
  • "Write a short teaser for the article about renewable energy in this newsletter."
  • "Summarize the top three stories in this edition in a casual, conversational tone."
Prompt limits
  • Maximum prompt length: 1,000 characters (~150–200 words)
  • Generated output maximum: 1,200 characters (~180–220 words)

ℹ️ AI text blocks are designed for short-form supporting content. For longer editorial sections, we recommend writing those directly in a standard rich text block.

Generating and regenerating content

Once you've written your prompt, click Load to generate content. A loading state will show while the AI is working.

Action What happens
Click Load AI generates new content based on your prompt and newsletter
Click Load again New content is generated and replaces the previous output — including any manual edits you've made
Generation fails An inline error message appears; your previous content (or placeholder) is preserved
Edit generated text You can freely edit the output; clicking Load again will replace your edits

⚠️ If you manually edit the AI-generated text and then click Load again, your edits will be overwritten with new AI output.

Limits and availability

  • Where it's available: Newsletters only (not templates)
  • Maximum blocks per newsletter: 7 AI text blocks
  • Prompt length: Up to 1,000 characters
  • Generated content length: Up to 1,200 characters (~180–220 words)

The 7-block limit is in place to keep newsletter load times fast and ensure reliable content generation.

Using AI text blocks in automations

AI text blocks can be included in newsletter templates used for automations. In this case, content is generated automatically at the end of the assembly process — after all other content has been added to the newsletter.

If your template includes multiple AI text blocks, they are generated sequentially.

Setting a fallback

When setting up an AI text block in a template, you can configure a fallback rich text — content that will appear if the AI fails to generate output during an automation run. This option is available in templates only (not in newsletters).

  • Fallback enabled: If generation fails, your fallback content is shown instead.
  • No fallback set: If generation fails, the block is hidden and the newsletter sends without it.
✅ We recommend always setting a fallback for AI text blocks in automation templates. This ensures your newsletter sends without gaps even if generation is unavailable.

Automations will not stop sending due to an AI text block failure. The newsletter will always send — either with the AI content, the fallback content, or without the block.

Fallback behavior (manual sends)

If generation fails during a manual send:

  • An inline error message will appear in the block, asking you to try again.
  • Any previously generated content (or the placeholder, if nothing was ever generated) is preserved.
  • You can retry generation as many times as needed.

Tips for best results

  • Add your main content first. The AI reads your newsletter content when generating, so having articles, links, and copy in place before clicking Load will produce more relevant results.
  • Be specific about format. If you want bullets, a single sentence, or a specific word count, include that in your prompt.
  • Use it for supporting copy. AI text blocks work best for summaries, intros, and teasers — not as a replacement for primary editorial content.
  • Always review before sending. Generated content may not match your exact tone or style. A quick review ensures quality.
  • Set a fallback for automations. This prevents blank sections if generation fails during a scheduled send.
