Understand how your newsletters perform, now with subscriber-level open data. When a newsletter is published, Letterhead displays delivery and engagement metrics directly on the newsletter’s page.
How to view newsletter metrics
-
Go to Newsletters.
-
Click on any published newsletter edition.
-
The Reports page will load automatically (instead of the composer screen).

Note: Newsletter edition metrics may take up to 1 hour after send time to appear.
Metrics update in stages depending on when the newsletter was published:
-
Every 15 minutes → for newsletters published today
-
Every hour → for newsletters published 24–36 hours ago
-
Once per day → for newsletters published more than 36 hours ago
Metrics page overview
The metrics are displayed in three main sections.
1. Bar chart
The bar chart shows the volume of key metrics. Hover over each bar to see the exact number.
-
Sent – The number of audience members targeted. This usually equals your full subscriber list at send time, minus any addresses suppressed immediately.
-
Delivered – Emails successfully delivered to recipient mailboxes.
-
Opens – The number of recipients who opened the newsletter.
-
Clicks – The total number of links clicked in the newsletter.

2. Metrics table
Below the chart, a table provides detailed performance metrics:
-
Delivery Rate – Percentage of emails successfully delivered (Delivered ÷ Sent).
-
Open Rate – Percentage of unique recipients who opened the email (Unique Opens ÷ Delivered).
-
Click Rate – Percentage of total clicks per email sent.
-
Clickthrough Rate – Percentage of recipients who clicked at least one link (Unique Clicks ÷ Delivered).
-
Bounces – Total number of bounced emails (hard, soft, and blocked). Letterhead reports the overall count but does not break out bounce types per newsletter.
-
Unsubscribes – The number of recipients who unsubscribed using the unsubscribe link in the newsletter footer.
-
Time to Read (minutes) – The average reading time for your newsletter.
-
Readability Score – An assessment of how easy your newsletter is to read.

3. Viewing who opened a newsletter
You can now view subscriber-level open data for each newsletter.
To see who opened a newsletter:
-
Open the Reports page for a published newsletter.
-
Click on the Opens metric.
-
A modal will appear showing:
-
The email addresses of subscribers who opened the newsletter
-
The date of the open
-
The number of opens per email address
-
You can also use the search bar within the modal to quickly find a specific subscriber

Note: If a subscriber opens the newsletter multiple times, Letterhead records the total number of opens for that email address.
4. Link performance
Below the metrics table, you’ll see a breakdown of all the links clicked in the newsletter:
-
Total Clicks – The total number of link clicks across all emails. Multiple clicks from the same recipient are counted individually.
-
Unique Clicks – The number of unique email addresses that recorded at least one click. Multiple clicks from the same recipient are counted once.
Viewing the sent newsletter
To view the actual edition that was sent, click Newsletter Preview. You’ll be redirected to the newsletter’s public page.
