How to use a custom email address as your From or Reply email

Learn how to use your custom email address to send and receive emails depending on what email service provider you use on Letterhead

To be able to send a newsletter from your custom email address, the email address must first be verified, you do not need to verify your reply email address.

Letterhead ESP

  • You can only update your from email address to a custom email address, for example, hello@tryletterhead.com, free email providers (Gmail, Yahoo, etc) cannot be used as your from address.
  • If you don't have a custom email address, you can still use Letterhead to send emails, your emails will come from: channel-name@a.letterhead.email

To verify your from email domain on Letterhead:

  1. Contact Letterhead support to let us know you want to update your from email to your custom email and send us your domain name.
  2. We will reply back with instructions for you to add DNS records to where your domain DNS is hosted.
  3. Sign in to your domain's DNS host account — this will likely be the company where your domain was purchased (GoDaddy, Domain.com, Bluehost, etc), or it could be the company where your website is hosted (Wordpress, Wix, Squarespace, etc). 
  4. Locate where to add new TXT and CNAME records for your domain.
  5. Add the records as instructed in our email and save — it can take up to 72 hours for this change to take effect.
  6. Reply back to your support ticket to let us know you've added the records.
  7. We will send you a confirmation email once we're able to verify your domain. 

To update your reply email address:

  1. Click the Settings link in the Letterhead menu.
  2. In the Sending emails section enter the email you want to use under Reply email address, this can be the same as your from email address or a different email.

Mailchimp

If you write your newsletters on Letterhead but your email service provider is Mailchimp, you must verify your from email domain with Mailchimp.

You can use free email providers like Gmail, Yahoo or AOL to send email from Mailchimp but you can't verify or authenticate them. Learn more about the limitations of free email addresses. Source.

  1. To verify your from email address with Mailchimp follow the steps here.
  2. Once your email domain is verified, contact Letterhead support to let us know you want to update your from email to your custom email and send us your email address.
  3. We will send you a confirmation email once your account is updated.

To update your reply email address:

  1. Click the Settings link in the Letterhead menu.
  2. In the Sending emails section enter the email you want to use under Reply email address, this can be the same as your from email address or a different email.

Constant Contact

If you write your newsletters on Letterhead but your email service provider is Constant Contact, you must verify your from email domain with Constant Contact.

  1. To verify your from email address (custom of from a free provider) with Constant Contact follow the steps here.
  2. Once your email is verified, contact Letterhead support to let us know you want to update your from email to your verified email and send us your email address.
  3. We will send you a confirmation email once your account is updated.

To update your reply email address:

  1. Click the Settings link in the Letterhead menu.
  2. In the Sending emails section enter the email you want to use under Reply email address, this can be the same as your from email address or a different email.
